Once you become a happy owner of this or that roll forming equipment you should expect seeing two sides of the coin. On the one hand, you will experience considerably enhanced efficiency and job performance. On the other hand, sooner or later you might encounter this or that problems with the machine. In this article we will introduce the most common issues and how to troubleshoot them.
1. Oil Canning
Definition
Let’s define the first problem. Essentially the problem implies visible irregular ripplings on the surface of the roof. This issue in only cosmetic and does not affect the efficiency of the roof or facade. However for some people the view is upsetting.
How to solve the problem:
You can prevent or eliminate the matter. To prevent it you want to guarantee appropriate conditions for panels’ installation (including even substrate and proper insulation).
There are also certain adjustments for the machine to help you avoid the waiving. It is recommended to add certain rigid structure into the flat part of the panel. Our roll forming machines for standing seam profile have special roller system with shear dies (trapezoidal shape).
Curved panels are the metal sheets that experience undesired bending effect (curvature). This issue usually has something to do with the very settings of the machine when it lets the metal run either up- or downhill.
The problem can be explained by different types of metal used as each of them has different properties and thus different response patters.
Also the curvature can be caused by inadequate setting of the run-out stands (if there are any). They should be set to the correct height to ease the exit of the panels.
How to solve the problem:
Before we discuss the changes to the machine settings it is important to note that the adjustments should be done in small steps and very gradually. Otherwise it can result in drastic outcome.
